About the Event
The Barnard in Washington (BIW) Book Club will meet on Sunday, June 1, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, location to be forwarded after registration.
We will discuss Edwidge Danticat's collection of exceptional new essays, We're Alone. Tracing a loose arc from Danticat’s childhood to the COVID-19 pandemic and recent events in Haiti, the essays include personal narrative, reportage, and tributes to mentors and heroes such as Toni Morrison, Paule Marshall, Gabriel García Márquez, and James Baldwin. She explores several abiding themes: environmental catastrophe, the traumas of colonialism, motherhood, and the complexities of resilience.
We also have the author, Edwidge Danticat, joining us via Zoom.
